Q. What is the recommended engine power?
A. For the Shearwater 860, the minimum recommended power rating is 150HP, and the maximum is 300hp.
Q. What is fuel consumption and speed?
A. It is very difficult to give an accurate figure, because of weight of fuel and crew, sea conditions and engine manufactures designs, but below is an approximate indication.
The hull is easily pushed and 200hp is sufficient to give a good performance, low fuel consumption and carry the maximum of ten persons allowed, giving a top speed ( light ) between 40KN (46mph) using in the region of 75-80L per hour flat out.
With a 300hp power unit the 860 will give an exhilarating performance of of 55KN (62mph) but fuel consumption will rise to approximately 100 L per hour when flat out.
From our experience a typical cruising speed is between 30-35 kn using around 30-40 ltr per hour.
Q. What are the Weights (approximate indication depending on specs)?
A. An average Shearwater with motor, fuel and some gear will weigh aproximatly 1850kg, or 2400kg on a road trailer.
Thus a suitable trailer for the Shearwater will have to be rated to carry 2700kg (including its own weight.).
Q. What is the recommended speed with the sprayhood erected?
A.The sprayhood should not be used at speeeds in excess of 30 knots.
Q. Can the craft pull a skier easily?
A. The tow eye in the top of the frame will pull a reasonable size skier.
